Rosemarie Smith's Bio
My name is Rosemarie Smith, the owner of Weir Comfees Ostomy Wear and Hernia Supports. I realize that when you telephone or meet me at an UOA Chapter Meeting you feel more comfortable if you know a little about me. So here’s the scoop!
My main career path was in Human Resources this of course involved some nurturing, problem solving, defending employee’s rights and work related counseling.
I am a mother of 2 sons and 1 daughter and grandmother to 5 neat grandkids and wife to a very patient and understanding husband. We are now empty nesters with 3 inquisitive cats and 2+ acres of land and garden to roam.
My consistent hobbies have been sewing clothes, home decor and various types of crafts. I love fabrics the feel, colour and texture of them, so when a particular fabric catches my eye I usually wonder what I can make with it.
I saw the ownership of Weir Comfees as an unique opportunity to marry my love of creating things, my nurturing nature and my extensive business experience to further develop a very much needed ostomy wear product line.
During my travels the most frequent question asked is “As a non-ostomate how did you get into this business?” Thanks to my good friend Bev who was a Weir Comfees client called me suggesting that here was an opportunity that I should explore, as Weir Comfees provides an important service and its closing down created a real problem. As they say the rest is history.
My first year was an eventful year with a very steep learning curve but thanks to the many helpful ostomates that I met I have learned so much. I now know why normal retail clothes don’t fit right and I have the solution. I have listened and learned what ostomates need for increased self-esteem, security and an enhanced lifestyle. I am committed to making good quality garments that meet the needs of ostomates and to continue to have fun while doing so.
